Parc national des Oiseaux du Djoudj

Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary protects a major wetland in the Senegal River delta north of Saint-Louis. Its channels, marshes and islands host many resident and migratory species; visits are generally guided and may include a boat trip depending on conditions.

Things to see and do

  • Watch pelican colonies and other waterbirds without disturbing them
  • Take the boat excursion when it is authorised and available
  • Use binoculars to identify species from a respectful distance
  • Listen to the guide’s explanations about migration and the delta ecosystem

Good to know

Opening periods, track conditions and boat trips vary with the season and water level. Confirm conditions before leaving Saint-Louis, bring water, sun protection and binoculars, and follow park rules closely.
