Bedik and Bassari villages

The UNESCO property distinguishes the Bassari–Salémata and Bedik–Bandafassi areas. A locally guided visit can help explain the relationship between settlement, farming and terrain. The Iwol images shown are archives from 1981–1982, documenting Bedik housing rather than a service available to book. Homes and ritual spaces are living places; access depends on residents' permission.

Things to see and do

  • Observe architecture from spaces where you are welcomed.
  • Discuss the farming landscape with a local host.
  • Ask people's permission before taking photographs.

Good to know

Agree on the route with a local contact; no ceremony or entry to a home is promised.
