Cycling near Casamance rice fields

Around Oussouye, rice fields, villages and rural roads form landscapes that change with the seasons. The photographs show rice fields after harvest in Oussouye in January 2008 and a harvest scene observed from the road to Oussouye in December 2019. They document the landscape and an access road, not a cycle route or an organised outing. Plan any ride with someone familiar with the paths, without entering fields or interrupting farm work.

Things to see and do

  • Observe rice fields from a public area without entering plots.
  • Ask which paths are permitted and usable on the day.
  • Choose a short loop with a defined return point.
  • Take breaks without photographing people or their work without consent.

Good to know

Check path conditions, traffic, weather and the actual availability of a suitable bicycle locally. The 2008 and 2019 archives do not guarantee current safety on the N6 or an available rental. Wear a helmet, carry water, plan your return and avoid riding on the fast roadway.
