Morphil Island
Morphil Island is a strip of land between the Senegal River and the Doué, a secondary river channel. A dissertation held by IRD describes this river setting and agricultural developments in Ngalenka; it is a historical document, not a current report on track conditions. A C.A.S.E.S overview published on 24 January 2025 mentions the mosques of Donaye, Guédé, Alwar and Mboyo. Use these landmarks to plan a few earth-architecture stops with someone who knows the area, without assuming interior access. Ask permission before visiting or taking photographs. Things to see and do
- Locate the Senegal River and the Doué before choosing a short route.
- Observe farmland from permitted paths without entering cultivated plots.
- Choose a stop at Donaye, Guédé, Alwar or Mboyo with a local companion, according to confirmed access.
- Observe the forms and materials of earth architecture from authorised spaces.
- Ask about building maintenance; do not assume an interior visit or a meeting is available.
Good to know
Confirm usable tracks, return transport and permissions. Ask before entering a mosque, home or farmland.
