Three Marigots excursion
The Three Marigots are wetlands in the Saint-Louis hinterland. A field report published on 26 April 2019 by Senegal Wildlife describes observations from the Tylla embankment at the second wetland. It records gallinules, herons and other waterbirds, alongside areas that were dry at that time. These historical observations do not guarantee species seen today or current access to the embankment. Plan with someone familiar with the area and keep to permitted paths. Field source: https://senegalwildlife.wordpress.com/2019/04/26/trois-marigots-gallinule-galore/.
Things to see and do
- Confirm permitted access and path conditions before setting off.
- Watch birds from a distance with binoculars, without attracting or feeding them.
- Compare wet and dry landscapes from accessible paths.
- Record sightings and the date to distinguish an actual encounter from a hoped-for species.
- Ask people for permission before photographing them.
Good to know
Bring water, sun protection and binoculars. Confirm the route and return locally; do not cross a flooded track. No species sighting, guided outing, actual duration or crossing is guaranteed.
